Good news for shipyards and system integrators working with high-output onboard power: MAN has expanded its 30-litre D3872 platform with a new auxiliary variant. The D3872 Auxiliary brings the V12 engine into genset and diesel-electric applications, extending the platform beyond propulsion into onboard power generation.
This expands the D3872 into a uniform engine family covering both propulsion and onboard power.
Key capabilities:
- Genset ratings: 840 kW (50 Hz) and 960 kW (60 Hz)
- Emission standards: IMO Tier II, IMO Tier III and EU Stage V
- Modular exhaust aftertreatment: SCR or SCR-DPF, depending on market and installation constraints
- Designed for fast and stable load response in demanding duty cycles
Built for genset and diesel-electric applications
With the new D3872 auxiliary variant, MAN Engines adds another modern and powerful option to its marine portfolio. Based on the proven 30-litre V12 platform, the engine is developed specifically for onboard gensets and diesel-electric concepts, supporting both classic onboard electrical systems and variable-load applications.
Two power levels are available for auxiliary operation: 840 kW at 50 Hz (MAN D3872 LE32x) and 960 kW at 60 Hz (MAN D3872 LE33x). These ratings enable flexible integration across vessel types and operating profiles — from workboats and offshore vessels to ferries and larger yachts.
Stable power under demanding load conditions
A key requirement in auxiliary power applications is load acceptance and stability. The D3872 Auxiliary is engineered for fast and stable response to changing load requirements, supporting reliable power supply even during sudden load changes and demanding operating conditions.
Compact design for space-critical projects
For shipyards and system integrators, installation space is often decisive. The compact architecture of the 30-litre platform supports integration in confined engine rooms and space-critical projects, where modular energy systems and diesel-electric or hybrid solutions are increasingly requested.
Global emissions coverage
The D3872 Auxiliary is offered to meet globally relevant emission standards, covering IMO Tier II, IMO Tier III and EU Stage V. MAN’s modular, space-efficient exhaust gas aftertreatment can be configured with SCR or SCR-DPF depending on market requirements and available installation space.
